In-state athlete Jack Plumb juggling a busy schedule

Jack Plumb is one of the busiest athletes in the state this spring.

The 6-foot-8, 240-pound junior is competing on Bay Port's track and field team as a thrower. He's also running with Playground Elite on the AAU basketball circuit, a team that travels across the country on the Nike EYBL schedule.

Finally, Plumb is taking unofficial visits to colleges across the Midwest for football, the sport where he may have the highest ceiling as either a tight end or offensive tackle.

"It's difficult with academics, AAU, track and the visits, but all of my coaches and my parents have been flexible and understanding that this is a busy but important time in recruiting," Plumb told BadgerBlitz.com. "They all want what's best for me and I appreciate that. Each one has some 'mandatory' events they don't want me to miss but other than that, they are understanding."

Plumb's name surfaced on the recruiting radar earlier in his high school career as a basketball prospect when UW-Green Bay extended a scholarship. Most recently, though, interest has picked up in football with offers from South Dakota, Western Illinois and Illinois State.

"Both sports are equal right now," Plumb said when asked if he knew what he would pursue in college. "For me it depends more on the school and making sure that is the right fit for me.

"Right now I'm hearing the most from Wyoming, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa and South Dakota."

The Badgers hosted Plumb on Friday, his second visit to UW this off-season. While on campus, he spoke to a handful of coaches, as well as former Bay Port standout Cole Van Lanen.

"I was able to watch the offensive line and tight ends during practice and the types of drills they were doing," Plumb said. "I was impressed with their attention to detail and focus on technique during the drills. I also watched them scrimmage at the end of practice and it was fun to see them get after it - they had great intensity.

"I talked to coach Al Johnson, coach (Joe) Rudolph and coach (Mickey) Turner. I also talked to Cole Van Lanen after practice and he told me that this is the place to be and that there is nothing like playing for the Badgers."

The next step for Plumb is camping at Wisconsin this summer in hopes of earning an offer.

"They seem very interested and want to work with me at their camp," said Plumb, who visited Minnesota on Saturday. "They said they love what I do on film and like that I play multiple sports. They want to come watch me compete in a track meet soon.

"I hope they offer. They said they want to continue evaluating me and said they are excited to work with me at camp."
