After visit, Trevor Shohoney looking forward to Wisconsin's camp

Over the last handful of recruiting cycles, Franklin (WI) High School has produced a number of Division 1 offensive linemen, a list that includes Levon Myers, Bryan Beck, Vince Hughes and Sam Reutz, among others.

Next in line for the Sabers is Trevor Shohoney, a 6-foot-4, 285-pound junior who visited Wisconsin on Thursday.

"The Wisconsin visit was pretty cool," Shohoney told BadgerBlitz.com. "I got to meet up with Al Johnson, one of their offensive line coaches. I have done his camps since I was in 8th grade and it's cool to have a connection to Wisconsin after those camps.

"I really only went there to watch practice but it was great to see how they run things in Madison and the coaching style of the team. Overall, it was a great first impression of Wisconsin."

While on campus, Shohoney, who helped Franklin to the Division 1 state title game last fall, was able to connect with Johnson, who is working as a graduate assistant under offensive line coach Joe Rudolph.

"Al Johnson really liked my film when he first saw it, and the other offensive line coach (Rudolph) talked to me as well and definitely wants me to come to camp to show off my abilities," Shohoney said. "I do expect to camp at Wisconsin again this summer and I'm excited to compete with better competition this year. I went last year and it was a really good camp.

"It's (Wisconsin) obviously my dream school to go to, but I know I have to work harder if I am ever going to receive an offer from Wisconsin. After the visit, I saw how the coaches treat their players and it's exactly what I like and how I want to be coached. I know Al Johnson and I have a real connection and I am hoping that connection can turn into an offer over the summer after their camp."

Another Big Ten school showing interest in Shohoney is Iowa, led by assistant coach Tim Polasek.

"My visit to Iowa went pretty good," Shohoney said. "Coach Polasek said he will be down by Franklin to watch me work out and give me a spring evaluation, and then we will continue the recruiting process from there. I loved the facilities and it would be great to receive an offer from there.

"When I visited Iowa, coach Polasek said that I am on the line of getting an offer in the spring or coming to camp and proving that I can play there. I feel that once Iowa sees me work out in the spring that there could be a chance of an offer."

At this point, Shohoney has scholarships from Buffalo, Illinois State and South Dakota.

"As of now, Northern Iowa has been talking to me a lot and they want me to come out to their for a private junior day," Shohoney said. "South Dakota has been constantly talking to me and sending me a lot of cool things. And there are a lot of other schools that have asked for my transcript and ACT scores, including some Ivy League schools. Army and Kent State are also talking with me

"Some schools like Iowa and Northern Illinois have also said that they are going to come watch me work out. I don't really have any visits planned in the near future, but I predict that I will be hearing from more schools as we move into spring and summer."

Shohoney feels he could play multiple positions on the line at the next level.

"When I talked to University of Buffalo, they said if I were to go there that I would probably play guard," he said. "South Dakota said I would be fine playing at tackle, but guard or center would also be a possibility. I am willing to play wherever the school needs me to."

UW currently has one commitment from an offensive lineman in the 2018 class: three-star tackle Michael Furtney.
