With three commitments in the last five days, we reexamine our 3-2-1 feature, where we tell you three things we learned, ask two questions and make one bold prediction.
THREE THINGS WE LEARNED
1 - Stanford could be the final hurdle for Wisconsin in its pursuit of two prospects
Stanford, which currently has four commitments in the 2018 class, could be the final roadblock for Wisconsin in its pursuit of cornerback Travian Blaylock and outside linebacker David Alston. Both prospects, who would be the final piece for UW at their respective positions, are scheduled to camp at Stanford on June 20-21.
Blaylock, who was on campus with his parents last weekend, is probably closer to a commitment than Alston. The Texas standout could decide in June if the Cardinal don't offer.
"I have a camp/visit to Stanford on the (June) 20th and then after that I don't think I have much," Blaylock told BadgerBlitz.com. "The rest of the summer will just be thinking and praying about my ultimate decision. Hopefully the decision is soon but I'm not sure when it will be.
"Out of the offers that I have and the places I have visited, yes, Wisconsin is definitely at the top."
Alston, whose most recent visit to Wisconsin was in April for the spring game, hasn't talked about a timetable. But after learning where he stands with Stanford, we'll likely have a better idea of his thought process.
"I originally wanted to decide right before the season, but it could be sooner than that or it could be later," Alston told BadgerBlitz.com. "I know that when I make my decision, I'm going to make the right decision for me, so I'm not worried about the timeline. I'd say the handful of schools that are standing out to me are probably, in no particular order, Stanford, Wisconsin, Nebraska and Utah. That's just what comes to mind."
2 - Jack Plumb will decide after his visit to Iowa
In-state tackle Jack Plumb, who worked alongside UW commit Michael Furtney and 2019 target Bryce Benhart at Friday's camp, will likely be committed to a Big Ten school by July 1. He's coming off visits to UW and Michigan State and is scheduled to travel to Iowa on June 23-24.
"Those two schools, along with Wisconsin, are the ones I'm pretty focused on right now, for the most part," Plumb told BadgerBlitz.com. "Pretty soon after that I'll make my decision."
We still feel the three-star prospect from Green Bay, who is from the same high school (Bay Port) as current Badgers Cole Van Lanen and Alec Ingold, is strongly leaning towards Wisconsin.
3 - "The Sett"
You may start seeing "The Sett" being referred to amongst recruits in Wisconsin's 2018 class on social media. Well, thanks to Michael Furtney, I found out what the phrase meant.
"I just found out this weekend, also," Furtney said. "A badger lives in a sett. It's the Badgers' den."
And according to Wikipedia: "A badger sett or set is a badger's den which usually consists of a network of tunnels and numerous entrances. The largest setts are spacious enough to accommodate 15 or more animals with up to 300 meters (980 ft) of tunnels and as many as 40 openings."
I think the 2018 "sett" is spacious enough to accommodate 19 Badgers. But there's still a long way to go.
