Wisconsin's 2018 in-state class doesn't feature a four-star prospect, but the group is extremely deep with over 19 Division 1 commitments as of July 3.

As we count down the days before the start of the 2017 high school football season, BadgerBlitz.com ranks the top seniors in the state, continuing with prospects 36 through 40.

No. 46-50 | No. 41-45 |

No. 40 - Offensive lineman Jacob Edwards

Interest from: Colorado, Iowa, Michigan State, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Wyoming

The word: Jacob Edwards, a first-team all-conference selection as junior, visited for Wisconsin's junior day in the winter and was back on campus for the spring game in April. He's definitely a preferred walk-on candidate for the Badgers but is also receiving interest from a handful of other schools.

No. 39 - Wide receiver Ryan Hayden

Offers: Minnesota State-Mankato, Bemidji State

The word: As a junior, Ryan Hayden had 1,620 receiving yards, 95 receptions, 18 touchdowns and 147.3 yards per game, the second best average in the state's history. Iowa has talked about a possible preferred walk-on offer, while North Dakota State, Illinois State, Northern Iowa and Air Force could be close to extending a scholarship.

No. 38 - Linebacker Marty Strey

Offers: North Dakota

The word: Marty Strey was one of just four juniors on the defensive side of the ball to receive WFCA All-State honors in 2016. The standout from Sun Prairie, who had 72 tackles and seven sacks last fall, has an early offer from North Dakota. He also competes with the Wisconsin Swing on the AAU basketball circuit.

No. 37 - Linebacker John Chenal

Offers: Minnesota State, Bemidji State

The word: It wouldn't be surprising to see John Chenal pick up a preferred walk-on offer from the Badgers. The projected inside linebacker visited with his brother, 2019 standout Leo Chenal, last month.

"I talked for a large amount of time with Coach (Chris) Haering, and coach (Paul) Meunier was very helpful giving us the tour of campus," John Chenal told BadgerBlitz.com. "I also spoke with Coach (Paul) Chryst, coach (Jim) Leonard and coach (Bob) Bostad about my future at the University of Wisconsin. Due to the fact that they already have four commitments from linebackers in the 2018 class, it's uncertain which position I will be playing. But they assured me I was wanted badly on the team."
