Quarterback
Highest rated: Curt Phillips (2008), Jack Coan (2017) and D.J. Gillins (2014) - Rivals rating of 5.8
Tolzien Breakdown: If anyone in the 2006 outperformed his star rating it was Scott Tolzien (5.4), who won the starting quarterback job in 2009 over Curt Phillips and led Wisconsin to the Rose Bowl the following year. As a senior, Tolzien had a completion percentage of .729 (minimum of 100 attempts) and efficiency mark of 165.8 (min. 200 attempts), both of which were the best in school history at the time. The No. 32 pro-style quarterback in the Rivals.com player rankings chose UW over offers from Kentucky and Toledo, among others, and is still enjoying a career in the NFL.
Offers: Wisconsin, Kentucky, Northern Illinois, Pennsylvania, Toledo and Western Michigan
Running Back
Highest rated: John Clay (2007) - 6.0
Hill Breakdown: Listed as a fullback, P.J. Hill (5.4), who rushed for 1,421 yards and 17 touchdowns during his senior season at Poly Prep in New York, was a lightly-recruited athlete coming out of high school. At Wisconsin, Hill surpassed 1,000 rushing yards in his first three seasons and when his career ended, he ranked third in UW rushing with 3,802 yards and 42 touchdowns. The former two-star prospect left Wisconsin early but was not selected in the 2009 NFL Draft.
Offers: Wisconsin, Buffalo, Syracuse and Vanderbilt
Wide Reciever
Highest rated: Kraig Appleton (2009), A.J. Taylor (2016) - 5.9
Doe Breakdown: Kenzel Doe (5.4) was a rare prep school (Oak Ridge Military Academy) signee for the Badgers, who were able to flip his commitment from Oregon State. Doe's biggest impact came in the return game, where he finished his career ranked No. 2 in UW history for career kickoff return average at 25.5 yards per runback and No. 7 in school history in punt return yards at 481. He also logged seven starts as a wide receiver with 42 career catches and one touchdown.
Offers: Wisconsin and Oregon State
Tight End
Highest rated: Austin Traylor (2011), Kyle Penniston (2015) - 5.8
Pedersen Breakdown: Just days before Signing Day in 2009, then-position coach Joe Rudolph extended an offer to Jacob Pedersen (5.2), who didn't receive much recruiting exposure on the Wisconsin/Michigan borderline of Menominee. Having played powerhouse programs Homestead and Marshfield as a senior, the two Wisconsin heads coaches from those respective schools alerted the Badgers about Pedersen. At UW, Pedersen finished his career ranked No. 7 all-time with 17 touchdown receptions, the most by a tight end in Wisconsin history. The former two-star prospect also ranked No. 16 in receiving yards at the time with 1,394.
Offers: Wisconsin and Eastern Michigan
Offensive Line
Highest rated: Josh Oglesby (2007) - 6.1
Costigan Breakdown: Wisconsin bumped up Kyle Costigan's (5.3) offer to a full ride just before Signing Day after initailly landing the in-state prospect with a greyshirt opportunity. He began his career as a defensive tackle but moved to offensive guard in 2012. That move produced excellent results, as Costigan went on to start 35 games as a Badger and earned first-team All-America (ESPN.com) and first-team All-Big Ten (consensus) honors as a senior. As a junior and senior, Costigan anchored an offensive line that led the way for two of the three best single-season rushing performances in school history at 283.8 yards per game in 2013 and a school-record 320.1 yards per game in 2014. Costigan is now a graduate assistant with UW's strength and condition program.

Highest rated: David Gilbert (2009), Shelby Harris (2009), Tyler Westphal (2008), Chikwe Obasih (2013), Andrew Van Ginkel (2017) - 5.8
Schofield Breakdown: Wisconsin originally recruited O'Brien Schofield (5.5) as a linebacker, but he quickly grew into a defensive end at UW. "I would imagine O'Brien is at least 235 (pounds) right now at 6-foot-4," then-head coach Barry Alvarez said during Signing Day in 2005. "And you can see, physical and can run. Plays linebacker, can play with his hand on the ground. He really has a lot of growth potential, but a really physical player."
At Wisconsin, Schofield developed later in his career and started all 13 games as a senior. He was named a unanimous All-Big Ten Conference first-team choice, team co-MVP and one of four team captains. His 24.5 tackles for loss in 2009 ranked as the second-highest single-season total in school history and were the second-highest total in the nation. He has played in the NFL with the Cardinals, Seahawks and Falcons.

Defensive Tackle
Highest rated: Nick Hayden (2004) - 5.9
Goldberg Breakdown: Pittsburgh native Arthur Goldberg (5.5) earned a scholarship at Wisconsin's summer camp and committed to the Badgers over an offer from the in-state Panthers. Versatility was his top attribute, as Goldberg had the ability to play both nose guard and end in UW's 3-4 scheme. Goldberg started a total of 14 games and played in 25 in 2014 and 2015, but was forced to give up football in 2016 due to head injuries. He would have likely been a starter as a redshirt senior this past fall.

As a Badger, Ikegwuonu was a Freshman All-American honorable mention selection by The Sporting News in 2005 and an All-Big Ten Conference first-team selection the following two years. Ikegwuonu elected to forego his senior college season to enter the 2008 NFL Draft but injured his knee during preparation. He was selected in the fourth round by Philadelphia but waived a year later.
