The Wisconsin Badgers added junior running back Julius Davis to their 2019 recruiting class Tuesday. Here's what Davis' commitment means for head coach Paul Chryst moving forward.
Skillset
At 5-foot-11 and 190 pounds, Julius Davis, a junior from Menomonee Falls High School, rushed for 1,762 yards and 17 touchdowns this fall. What stands out right away is the workhorse role he played in 2017. Davis carried the ball at least 20 times in all 10 games this season, with the high-marker coming on a 39-carry outing in a win over Marquette.
On film Davis shows great balance and an ability to run between the tackles or break plays to the outside. Once he gets to the second level, Davis, who reported a 4.6-second 40-yard dash, has a gear to outrun defensive backs at that level. Physically, he's difficult to bring down at first contact as he keeps his legs churning until the whistle. He also runs behind his blockers, has good pad level and a great one-cut burst to create space.
This fall, Davis told BadgerBlitz.com he was limited in the camps he attended this summer after "I broke a piece of my growth plate in my hip" during track. A healthy off-season should help in both his speed and strength development.
