Wisconsin lands commitment from transfer offensive lineman Joe Huber
With needs along both lines, Wisconsin has now added bodies on both sides of the ball in the past 48 hours.
Late Friday night, UW received a commitment from redshirt sophomore offensive lineman Joe Huber, who makes the move over from Cincinnati. The former walk-on started all 14 games this past season at right tackle for the Bearcats.
The 6-foot-5, 310-pound offensive tackle visited Madison this week and has 20 appearances under his belt at Cincinnati. This past season, he saw 854 total snaps on offense in his 14 starts and collected a grade of 80.6, according to Pro Football Focus. Huber has at least two years of eligibility remaining.
Considering his experience and connections to the current coaching staff, Huber should compete for playing time right away along the offensive line. With Riley Mahlman on the right side and Jack Nelson on the left side anchoring at tackle, he could add depth or compete for a starting job in 2023.
"You can never have enough good o-linemen, so whether it’s portal or freshmen, we’re always looking to get bigger and better in the o-line room, so that will never change," offensive coordinator Phil Longo told reporters this week.
