Wisconsin Badgers positional recruit snapshot: 2022 quarterbacks

Over the next two weeks, BadgerBlitz.com will be bringing you snapshots for each recruited position, covering the targets who are legitimate prospects on Wisconsin's board in the 2022 class. We will discuss the candidates who are most interested in the Badgers, as well as those who are considered long shots to commit to UW.

As always, this is just a snapshot in time and things remain fluid. Additional offered targets will appear over the next few months and some recruits will inevitably choose other colleges.

Today, we start with a look at the quarterbacks.

With Jack Coan currently prepping for his post-Wisconsin career at Notre Dame, the Badgers are expected to have three scholarship quarterbacks on the upcoming spring roster: Graham Mertz, Chase Wolf and Danny Vanden Boom - in addition to preferred walk-on Daniel Wright. UW will also be without quarterbacks coach Jon Budmayr, who took over as the offensive coordinator at Colorado State this offseason.

Three-star Deacon Hill signed in December and is getting ready to play his senior season in California. In the junior cycle, Wisconsin received a commitment from three-star in-state QB Myles Burkett in late January. He is expected to be the only player the Badgers take at the position in this cycle.

Franklin quarterback Myles Burkett committed almost immediately after he picked up an offer from head coach Paul Chryst in late January. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound junior, who threw for 1,236 yards and 11 touchdowns through five games last fall, also had scholarships from Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Miami (OH) and Northern Illinois.

"For the last month and a half it's been pretty regular communication with Wisconsin," Burkett told BadgerBlitz.com. "Things started to heat up and they were hinting at that offer, and last week it eventually came. When they offered me, there was that 'wow' factor and the shock of receiving an offer from your dream school. I had no hesitation and I let Coach Chryst know that I was 100 percent in and that I wanted to be a Badger.

"They really liked how I played but also how I carried and handled myself through this time. I was patient and they liked how I didn't jump on something else before they came in. I know Coach Chryst's main point was that he loved the person that I am. From the multiple people that he talked to, they all relayed the same message of what type of person I was, what type of leader I was and what I can bring to their football team. I think those were huge factors in them offering me and I am very grateful to receive that opportunity."
