"The coaches were shocked," Baun told BadgerBlitz.com on Saturday. "But they were also super excited at the same time. They welcomed me into their family.
"it feels great. I'm very confident with my decision. I have to stay focused on my team first, though."
Baun, 6-foot-3, 210 pounds, accepted a grayshirt opportunity from head coach Gary Andersen and would enroll in classes for the spring semester of 2016. The senior plays quarterback for Brown Deer (WI) High School but is being recruited as an athlete by the Badgers.
"I've been thinking about it for a while and I just feel like I belong here already," Baun said. "Very welcoming coaches, staff and fans. I'm very proud of my decision.
"Right now they like me at outside linebacker, but that could change."
Friday night, Baun rushed for over 400 yards and six touchdowns during a 49-40 win over Pewaukee in a WIAA Division 3 playoff contest. He has 37 rushing scores on the year and over 1,800 yards passing.
Baun, who chose UW over an offer from South Dakota State and strong interest from Central Michigan, Northern Iowa and Minnesota, is the 20th known pledge in the Badgers' 2015 class. Brown Deer (8-2) plays to top seed Wisconsin Lutheran (10-0) Friday evening.
