Three-star safety Bryson Shaw commits during unofficial visit

Three-star athlete Bryson Shaw has committed to the University of Wisconsin.

The 6-foot-2, 175-pound safety become pledge No. 6 for the Badgers on Saturday night during an unofficial visit to Madison.

"I am extremely blessed and very excited to announce that I have committed to the University of Wisconsin," Shaw wrote on his Twitter page. "I would like to thank my parents for always being there for me. I love them very much. I want to thank God for blessing me and always helping me get through tough times.

"I want to thank Coach (Pat) Cilento and my other Bullis coaches for helping me develop as a man and a player. Finally, I want to thank the Wisconsin coaches for believing in me. This is just the start of something special. Go Badgers!"

A projected safety from Bullis School in Maryland, Shaw, from the same high school as current UW defensive back Patrick Johnson, chose UW over offers from Virginia, Maryland, Wake Forest, Duke, West Virginia, Syracuse, Rutgers, North Carolina and Northwestern, among others. He was recruited by defensive coordinator and position coach Jim Leonhard.

"My dad and I loved Jim Leonhard as a player when he played for the Baltimore Ravens," Shaw told BadgerBlitz.com in a previous interview. "The feedback from coach Leonhard has been really great - they really show they that are committed to me and they really want me there.

"Wisconsin is in my top two or three schools out of the offers I have now. I really like coach Leonhard. Coach Leonhard has really been pushing for me to make a visit there and that’s why I am going at end of this month."

Prior to the visit, Shaw was also deciding if he would play lacrosse at the next level. He is currently ranked as the No. 8 player in the nation, per Recruiting Rundown.

This past fall, Shaw had 27 catches for 474 yards and five touchdowns. He also rushed 39 times for 213 yards and three touchdowns and intercepted three passes on defense.
