The Hot 11 is back for a scorching 2017 season. First up, the Week 1 matchup between the Wisconsin Badgers and Utah State Aggies.

A college football team can have an active roster housing up to 125 active players. However, not all 125 of these players will play or make an impact when compared to a full-time starter. Only a select few will complete the highlight reel catch or the defensive stop against an opposing fourth down attempt.

Thus, after analyzing Wisconsin’s 59-10 victory over Utah State, it is only right to give credit where credit is due. For the first time of the 2017 season, the BadgerBlitz.com presents its Hot 11: Week 1 below.

Player #1 Temperature Meter: 500˚F

- Alex Hornibrook (15-23, 244 yards, 3 TD)

The redshirt sophomore once again showcased that he is the centerpiece of the Badgers' offensive success. In the first quarter, though, Hornibrook was sacked twice, fumbled and threw behind receivers. Like UW’s comeback, Hornibrook rebounded extremely well. He finished without an interception and a career-high in touchdowns (3) to cap off Wisconsin’s night victory. Without Hornibrook at the helm, the final score may not have been the same.

Player #2 Temperature Meter: 450 ˚F

- TJ Edwards (5 Solo Tackles, 2 Assisted Tackles, 7 Total Tackles, 1 Tackle for loss)

T.J. Edwards ended Utah State’s potential rally in the second quarter, earning him the second spot on the Hot 11 list. His three tackles consequently led to a touchdown the next drive, bringing the score to 10-7 in favor of the Aggies. Then, his late second-quarter pickoff of Kent Myers resulted in a 29-yard field goal by Rafael Gaglianone, knotting the score at 10. Similarly, his seven tackles and two pass breakups stimulated a Wisconsin offense, as well as defense, to awaken from its offseason slumber.

Player #3 Temperature Meter: 400 ˚F

- Jonathan Taylor (87 yards, 1 TD, Av. 9.7 yards/carry, 41 long)

In his first career game, true freshman Jonathan Taylor displayed why he deserves the co-starter - and possible lone starter - running back position. On nine carries, Taylor totaled 87 yards and a touchdown, consistently creating opportunities from nothing. His 41-yard burst propelled the Badgers with a lead and one they would cherish.
