During the suspension, Smith will remain on official squad lists and may continue to receive support service in the sports medicine facility, the academic support center and the weight training room.
As a freshman, Smith played in 12 games and was the second leading rusher on the team behind P.J. Hill. He rushed for 345 yards and five touchdowns in 2006 including a career-high 65 yards and his first touchdown at Indiana on Sept. 30. He later recorded a career high 21 carries against Illinois when he played for the injured Hill.
In high school, Smith was a three-star prospect and ranked the No. 19 all-purpose back in the country by Rivals.com. He chose the Badgers over Minnesota and Penn State.
