When Wisconsin received a commitment Friday from quarterback Chase Wolf, Paul Chryst and his staff tapped into one of Cincinnati’s most prolific families.
The athletic accolades, ranging from football to basketball to tennis and more, are lengthy. And there’s a strong connection to St. Xavier, the high school where Chase’s grandfather, Charley Wolf, spurred a change in the program’s name.
“I’ve known Chase since he was a little boy and I’ve know his mom and dad since they were freshmen in high school,” Bobbie Klotz, offensive coordinator at St. Xavier, told BadgerBlitz.com. “I’ve been working with Chase probably since his first football camp as a fifth-grader. He great young man who comes from an awesome, athletic family - really one of Cincinnati’s best families of athletes.
“His grandfather played for St. Xavier in the late 40s and early 50s with George Ratterman, who ended up playing at Notre Dame and later in the NFL. St. X used to be known as the Conquerors, but when Chase’s grandfather played receiver and Ratterman threw him the ball - on the basketball court they would both hit long shots, t00 - all the headlines said, ‘Wolf and Ratterman bomb so and so.’ With the Cold War going on at that time, too, they actually became the Bombers instead of the Conquerors.
