PRE-GAME NOTES
Arkansas-Pine Bluff's trip to the Midwest started with a 99-57 loss to Marquette on Wednesday. Next up: No. 7 Wisconsin, which is coming off a 77-67 win over Eastern Illinois. Senior big man Nate Reuvers scored 14 of his 18 points in the first half as UW cruised to an opening-night victory.
“It was a lot of feeling out, trying to get comfortable, regardless of opponent,” Greg Gard said. “I think that was the biggest thing, even for the older guys. Nate and Micah (Potter) haven’t played a ton together in games. It was just a lot of learning. I think the biggest thing is trying to get comfortable now that we’re in this environment and we’re playing games and these are the guys who will be on the floor.”
For the second game in a row, UW is expected to go with an all-senior starting lineup - D'Mitrick Trice, Brad Davison, Aleem Ford, Potter and Reuvers - against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The last time the Badgers' started five seniors was in 2001, when Wisconsin featured Mike Kelley, Roy Boone, Maurice Linton, Andy Kowske and Mark Vershaw against Michigan State.
The Golden Lions are paced by redshirt junior Shaun Doss Jr., who had 27 points against Marquette. It was his eighth career 20-plus point scoring game. Terrance Banyard, who played at Milwaukee Destiny, is also expected to start against Wisconsin. Markedric Bell was a Preseason All-SWAC second-team selection. He averaged 10.8 points and 4.8 rebounds last season.
Friday’s game is the first-ever meeting between the two schools. Wisconsin is 13-0 all-time against teams from the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
