PRE-GAME NOTES

Will Ryan, the son of legendary Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan, returns to Kohl Center in his first season at UW-Green Bay. He spent five years on his father's staff in Madison from 2002-2007.

"Will I known since he was knee-high to a grasshopper," head coach Greg Gard said on Monday. "It's been a long time back when he was a ball boy or a mop-up guy, meaning a grade-school kid mopping up the floor at Platteville. I coached him as a freshman in high school - in (19)93-'94 I did both the high school and some time with Bo at the university.

"Then three or four years later he was a freshman with us and redshirted his first year, played a little bit his second year and then we left to go to Milwaukee. Then he joined us after another year at Milwaukee. So, yeah, the lineage there goes back a long, long ways."

The Phoenix coaching staff also features assistant Freddie Owens, who was co-captain of the Badgers’ 2002 and 2003 Big Ten regular-season and 2004 Big Ten Tournament championship teams.

"I've had a chance to coach him (Owens) here for a few years," Gard said. "He'll probably joke that he always knew when I got mad at him, I called him by Lawrence, not Freddie. His real, official first name is Lawrence.

"I haven't seen Freddie in a while because we didn't have any recruiting time on the road this summer. I haven't seen either one of those guys in a while, so it will be good to see them tomorrow night and I look forward to competing and seeing ways we can get better with our own team."

This week, Wisconsin climbed three spots to No. 4 in the AP Top 25 Poll, UW’s highest mark since being ranked No. 3 in March of 2015. The Badgers' current 10-game win streak is tied for the sixth longest in the nation.

Wisconsin is 24-1 all-time against UW-Green Bay and a perfect 21-0 at the Kohl Center.
