Minnesota center Joe Hedstrom commits to Wisconsin

Late Wednesday evening, Wisconsin received a commitment from 2018 center Joe Hedstrom.

The 6-foot-10, 225-pound prospect from Hopkins High School in Minnesota accepted a four-for-five deal from the Badgers, where he'll go on scholarship after his first season in Madison.

"I'm excited to announce my commitment to the University of Wisconsin," Hedstrom said in a message to BadgerBlitz.com.

Hedstrom, who also had offers from Cleveland State, Denver, Hofstra, Loyola (MD), North Dakota, North Dakota State, South Dakota and Western Michigan, joins four-star guard Tyler Herro in the Badgers' 2018 recruiting class.

“Joe has a strong upper body, good touch, and great feet,” Hedstrom's AAU coach, Christian Lewis, told Rivals.com. “Joe's ascension came solely because he was given an opportunity to show what he can do.

"We get him the ball, and he get's many opportunities every tournament to get on the floor and show coaches all he can do. He has developed a stronger base this summer and is scoring at an even higher rate.”

Hedstrom, who took his official visit to to Wisconsin in late September, is expected to be the fifth Minnesota native on the Badgers roster next year, along with Brad Davison, Alex Illikainen, Nathan Reuvers and Walt McGrory. He is also prep teammates with 2019 Wisconsin target Zeke Nnaji, who currently holds a scholarship from Greg Gard and the Badgers.

With Hedstrom going on scholarship in 2019, UW still has one available scholarship in the current senior class.
