Jackson ditches boot

MADISON, Wis. - Traevon Jackson (foot) announced last week that he would be playing on Sunday when the No. 5 Wisconsin Badgers (25-3, 13-2) host the Michigan State Spartans (19-9, 10-5) despite not being medically cleared to do so.
On Friday, Jackson had still yet to be medically cleared, but he showed the greatest sign of progress since breaking his foot on January 11 against Rutgers. Jackson walked into the Nicholas-Johnson Pavilion during the Badgers practice without a walking boot for the first time since the injury.
Jackson practiced his free-throw shooting on one of the side baskets, but exited the facility shortly thereafter to continue rehabbing.
When asked if he thought Jackson would be able to play on Sunday, Josh Gasser didn't seem to optimistic.
"Probably not, but I don't know. I'm not going to talk about. That's his business for him to talk about, so I'll let him take care of that."
Earlier this week, Jackson traveled with the team for the first time since his injury when the Badgers headed to Maryland.
Time will tell if Jackson can reach his goal of playing on senior night, but his shooting without a boot on Friday was a step in the right direction.
