Wisconsin picked up verbal commit No. 17 in the class of 2018 on Saturday - news that became public Thursday - from Avon, Ind., athlete Isaac Guerendo.

Here are 10 quick takes and some analysis on what Guerendo's commitment means for the Badgers.

1. I don't think Paul Chryst instructed his staff to identify and land more speed when they started to lay the groundwork for the 2018 class in comparison to past cycles. But that's certainly how it played out in the last handful of days.

It was assumed the "versatile athlete with elite speed" category was fulfilled when Aron Cruickshank committed last week. But Chryst, according to a source, put Guerendo in a "coach's column," meaning he felt the Indiana standout was too unique to pass on, regardless of room. Quite a compliment for just a two-star prospect.

2. "Not a lot of 4.4 (second) speed knocking down the doors," was another text I received Saturday. Guerendo ran the fastest 40-yard dash at the Irish Invasion (4.38 seconds) and has been clocked as low as 10.68 seconds in the 100-meter dash. In comparison, Wauankee's L.O. Johnson won the WIAA Division 1 state tile in the 100 this spring with a time of 10.99 seconds. The top time of the year, though, came from Kyle Thomas of River Valley, who ran a 10.53 on May 25.

3. Where will Guerendo carve out his role at Wisconsin? Special teams is certainly a good place to start, but there are opportunities on both sides of the ball. Unlike Cruickshank, who is generously listed at 5-foot-10 and 170 pounds, Guerendo brings an excellent size/speed combination. At 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds, he could contribute at receiver, cornerback or even free safety if he proves to be a willing tackler. There's a lot of traffic right now at receiver, so it will be interesting to see how the staff attempts to get Guerendo involved at the start of his career.
