Four-star DB commits while on campus

Craig Watts' scholarship sheet reads like a who's who list in the world of college football: Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Michigan, Notre Dame and Ohio State are all included.

But it was the Wisconsin Badgers who were able to get the 5-foot-10, 181-pound defensive back from St. Petersburg (FL) Admiral Farragut Academy on campus this week. And it was defensive coach Dave Aranda and head coach Paul Chryst who played a huge role in landing a commitment from the four-star standout.

"First of all, we have Craig's back no matter what and we're behind him 100 percent," Watts' father, Craig Watts Sr., told BadgerBlitz.com. "My son is smart when it comes to where he wants to be and after doing some research on our own, we pretty much gave him our blessings.
"Craig never exactly said what school he wanted to attend, he always kept his options open. So when he told us we were surprised and excited at the same time. This is a awesome moment for parent."
Watts Sr. was not able to take the visit to Madison with his son, but received a stellar report.
"Craig loved the family atmosphere, great people and said Madison was a great city," Watts Sr. said. "The city of Madison loves football. We did not attend this one but will be attending in the near, near future. I'm very proud of my son.
"Craig is highly loved by the staff, players and everyone he has come in contact with. He's a humble kid that's very competitive. He's 100 percent committed."
Watts, who is expected to play safety for the Badgers, is the 12th known member of Wisconsin's 2016 class. He joins Seth Currens as projected athletes at the position.
