Depth across the board at nearly every position is a big reason why Wisconsin is expected to contend for a Big Ten title in 2017. With that theme in mind, BadgerBlitz.com ranked each position's depth from strongest to weakest based on the fall camp roster.

No. 1: Offensive line

Reason why: After struggling with the depth the last few years, Wisconsin is finally back to full strength on the offensive line. This is deepest position group on the team because offensive coordinator Joe Rudolph probably feels good about playing at least nine linemen: Jake Maxwell, Micah Kapoi, Beau Benzschawel, Michael Deiter, Brett Connors, Jon Dietzen, David Edwards, Patrick Kasl and Tyler Biadasz. From that group, only Kasl and Biadasz, both of whom could actually be starters this year, have yet to see game action. Additionally, Cole Van Lanen and true freshman Kayden Lyles have received high praise from the coaching staff.

Key recruiting class: Deiter, Kapoi, Benzschawel and Maxwell, along with Connors, a former walk-on, were part of the 2014 recruiting class.

No. 2: Linebackers

Reason why: Wisconsin has to replace two starters at outside linebacker, but the four starting-caliber athletes on the inside - Ryan Connelly, TJ Edwards, Chris Orr and Jack Cichy - make this position the second deepest on the roster. On the outside, Garret Dooley and Leon Jacobs are both proven, with Andrew Van Ginkel, Zack Baun, Keldric Preston and Christian Bell all fighting for time this fall. Youngsters Noah Burks and Griffin Grady are also intriguing.

Key recruiting class: Dooley, Cichy (walk-on) and Jacobs - all projected starters - were part of the 2013 recruiting class.

No. 3: Running backs
