Enneking hearing from three Big Ten schools early in the process

Three schools from the Big Ten conference have been in contact with 2019 in-state tight end William Enneking early in the recruiting process.

"As of right now, the other schools besides Wisconsin that I have had the privilege to receive a game invite from are the University of Minnesota and the University of Iowa," Enneking told BadgerBlitz.com. "As of right now I don't have any other visits planned, but we’re planning to make time for one or two more just in case."

A 6-foot-3, 225-pound tight end from Sussex Hamilton High School, Enneking was in Madison this past weekend for the Badgers' win over Purdue.

"My parents and I got there and had breakfast in all of our position groups and an interesting thing about it was the tight end from the team (Blake Kunz/Germantown) we had played and beat the night before was there," Enneking said. "He’s a year ahead of me and we all had a pretty good conversation. I got to meet the tight ends coach (Mickey Turner) and thought he was really cool.

"After that we got a tour of some of Camp Randall and the different facilities, which was awesome. When we got to watching the game my dad and I were able to watch exactly what they do with their tight ends and we both thought that it could fit for me. Overall, even though it rained most of the time I had an awesome time and felt the whole trip gave me some insight into what I would experience if I went to Wisconsin."

Enneking, who will lead the Chargers against Madison West Friday night in the WIAA playoffs, is still in the initial recruiting stages with UW.

"I didn’t have the privilege to speak to many of the coaches but the couple I did get to talk to thanked me for coming and I thanked them for inviting me," Enneking said. "I came to a camp during the summer and got to talk to a recruiting coach and he seemed open to me coming here as long as I keep working towards the end goal.

"From what I got to experience during the visit I feel good about Wisconsin. They do seem interested in me, however, it was an unofficial visit, so I was one of many guys there."

Earlier this fall, the Hawkeyes and Gophers also received visits from Enneking, who had 18 catches for 176 and two touchdowns during the regular season.

"From Iowa I got to meet with Coach (Tim) Polasek, their offensive line coach, after the game and he told me how my recruiting would likely go from there for Iowa," Enneking said. "They seem fairly interested.

"I got to meet Coach (P.J.) Fleck from Minnesota and I really enjoyed his energy. From what I’ve grasped with the unofficial visits is that all three schools are interested and all three have the type of education and culture I would like as well, so it’s almost like a three-way tie at this point."
