Wisconsin's momentum in the transfer portal continued Monday morning with a commitment from Jeff Pietrowski.
A 6-foot-2, 250-pound junior, Pietrowski is listed as a defensive end on the Spartans' roster but is expected to play outside linebacker for the Badgers. The Ohio native entered the portal last week.
Pietrowski injured his left leg in Michigan State’s third game this past season and did not return to action. In 2021, he played in all 13 contests and was tied for second on the team with 5.5 sacks. Pietrowski finished with 33 tackles (18 solo, 15 assists) and played a total of 483 snaps on defense that year.
A member of the 2020 recruiting class, Pietrowski, from powerhouse St. Edward, was offered by Cincinnati and current Wisconsin head coach Luke Fickell. He also listed scholarships from Louisville, Kentucky, Minnesota and Pittsburgh, among others, while in high school.
At outside linebacker, Wisconsin will lose multi-year starter Nick Herbig to the 2023 NFL Draft. His running mate on the opposite side, fifth-year senior C.J. Goetz, has the option to return this spring. Waiting in the wings are Darryl Peterson, Kaden Johnson, T.J. Bollers and Aaron Witt, if healthy.
Pietrowski, who is expected to have three years of eligibility remaining at UW, is one of seven scholarship transfer portal targets Fickell has landed so far for the Badgers.
