The Wisconsin Badgers added three-star offensive lineman Joe Tippmann to their 2019 recruiting class Saturday. Here's what Tippmann's commitment means for head coach Paul Chryst moving forward.

Skillset

At 6-foot-6 and 283 pounds, Joe Tippmann, at least on paper, projects to the tackle position. This may certainly prove to be the case, but the most recent tape shows a player who could potentially bump inside if needed, especially in a class where the Badgers already have a four-star (potential) future left tackle in Logan Brown and are sitting well with a handful of other prospects at the position.

Tippmann, a three-star prospect from Indiana, has great size already and can probably play in the 315- or 320-pound range early in his career at UW. He attacks with a wide base and can certainly move people at the point of contact. We'll be looking for more quickness and lateral movement next fall to better gauge his future position. Finally, you'd like to see him finish blocks and drive defenders into the ground more often, but that's nitpicking at this point.

"Wisconsin said they have been watching me all season and that they have liked the way I move and they like my attitude and coachability," Tippmann told BadgerBlitz.com this fall. "Recently, though, they said they’ve noticed something click in the past two to three games that made them pull the trigger."

On film, Tippmann also takes some reps defensive tackle and even fullback. He shows pretty good athleticism at both those spots and a good punch at the point of attack overall.

Tippmann chose Wisconsin over offers from Cincinnati, Indiana, Iowa and Purdue, among others.
