This fall, Joe Brunner will be a four-year varsity starter at Whitefish Bay High School.
It's a unique situation for head coach Jake Wolter, who knew from the jump that he had a special talent within his program.
"For our contact days we go to a three-day camp at Carroll University," Wolter told BadgerBlitz.com. "Long story short, we brought Joe along as a freshman. The first drill on the first day with helmets and shoulder pads, we split the linemen and skill guys, who I was with.
"We hear a big scuffle down with the linemen and I look and it's Joe, our freshman who we weren't sure belonged just yet, on top of a senior defensive lineman. They were picking on him and Joe wasn't taking any crap that day. And that lineman went on to be an honorable mention all-conference player. So I looked over to our other coaches and said, 'yeah, I think he's ready.'"
