Wisconsin staff member Jon Budmayr extended a scholarship to Ben Bryant this past summer based on his throwing ability at a camp in Illinois.

But the Badgers' coaching staff quickly made the 6-foot-3, 190-pound quarterback a top priority in the 2018 class after learning about his character and potential fit at UW.

"One of the biggest things Wisconsin talked about was Ben as a person and how good of a kid he is," Lyons (IL) High School head coach Kurt Weinberg told BadgerBlitz.com. "Ben is about the team and not himself, and they (UW) are very much about that, preaching the values of the team above the individual.

"They see that in Ben and they talked to us about that throughout his recruitment. Athletically, he can do all the things you need him to do, but they really loved his character, work ethic and upbringing."
