Causes for hope and concern in Wisconsin's 2017 schedule: Part 1

Wisconsin's 2017 football season is right around the corner, but it's a little too early to make our official predictions about how their schedule will shake out.

So instead BadgerBlitz.com took a look through Wisconsin's 2017 slate and identified reasons for hope and reasons for concern each week. So no matter if you're bullish or bearish on Wisconsin this year, there's something for everybody.

UTAH STATE (Sep. 1 - Madison, Wis.)

Cause for Hope

Utah State was a giant-killer back in the early part of the decade when Gary Andersen was still the head coach, and his successor Matt Wells kept the momentum going for a while after Andersen left for Wisconsin. But the Aggies don’t look like the tough out they used to be after going 6-7 in 2015 and 3-9 in 2016, missing a bowl game for the first time in five years last year. They do return starting quarterback Kent Myers Sr., but he’s one of just 10 returning starters for this season. Having this game in Madison should help the Badgers, too. The Aggies came close to beating UW at Camp Randall in 2012, but the Badgers have gotten better since then and the Aggies have taken a step back.
