Wisconsin didn't send many football players to San Antonio for the U.S. Army Junior National Combine, but one of, if not the state's top prospect was in attendance this past weekend.

Vince Biegel, a 6-foot-3, 210-pound linebacker from Wisconsin Rapids, placed his hometown and the Midwest on his back as he competed against some of the top class of 2012 prospects in the nation.
"You walk around and you see all these kids with Texas or Florida hats on and that just made me want to show everyone that I was from Wisconsin and the Midwest," Biegel told BadgerBlitz.com Wednesday evening. "I felt I was representing what our state had to offer. But you had kids all the way from California over to Massachusetts, so it was just a really cool feel.
"Obviously the combine had all the top kids across the country so you really can get a good idea of where you're at. That was the thing that I really took away from it. More than anything, it was just exciting to have the opportunity to show what I got and I felt I did pretty well."
Biegel, who already has offers from BYU, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Northern Illinois and Iowa, is the son of Rocky Biegel, who played for the Cougars from 1988 to 1991.
"I really had a great time out here," said Biegel, who had close to 175 tackles, four interceptions and six forced fumbles this past season. "My father and I flew out here together and the combine went about as well as it could have; I have no regrets at all. I prepared really hard with my speed and strength coach. I was feeling really confident during the combine and it was just an exciting time.
"I got to meet some really great people and some great coaches. I just had fun with the guys that were down there."
A first-team all-conference, all-region and all-state honor standout as a junior, Biegel is transitioning into his spring sports schedule at Rapids.
"I'm a three-sport guy but I'm not doing hockey this year," he said. "Right now I'm working really hard with our power lifting coach at my high school. I'm working hard five days a week and I'll be doing track in the spring. I want to stay competitive during the off-season."
Biegel and Kenosha Bradford running back Vonte Jackson are the lone 2012 in-state prospects who hold an offer from Wisconsin at this time.
