The first-year head coach announced Thursday the hiring of Chris Beatty, who will coach wide receivers at UW.
"Chris has a great track record of taking care of young men and making sure they succeed academically, socially and athletically, which is always the top priority with me," Andersen said in a release through the university.
Beatty, 39, was the co-offensive coordinator at Illinois last season. The Illini finished last in the Big Ten in total offense (296.7 yards per game) and scoring (16.7 points per game).
Beatty has also spent time at Vanderbilt (2011), West Virginia (2008-'10) and Northern Illinois (2007).
On the recruiting front, Beatty has a good deal of experience in Virginia, where he was born, and Washington D.C. In 2010, he landed four-star prospects Deon Long and Quinton Spain for the Mountaineers.
"He (Beatty) has shown that he can recruit at the highest levels of Division I and been very successful at it," Andersen said in the same release. "The experience he brings coaching wide receivers will be an asset to us. We are very excited to have him, his wife, Kris, and his son, Aaron, joining the Badger family."
Beatty will inherit a position group that was widely unproductive in 2012. Senior Jared Abbrederis, a consensus first-team All-Big Ten performer last season, returns but the Badgers have been looking for impact players behind him. Jordan Fredrick (17 receptions), Kenzel Doe (16 receptions), Jeff Duckworth (nine receptions) and Chase Hammond (five receptions) all saw time last year.
