Badgers offer greyshirt to Harrell; commitment likely coming

During an official visit this weekend, Wisconsin extended a greyshirt offer to 2016 athlete Deron Harrell.

A lightly-recruited senior from Denver (CO) Denver East, assistant Mickey Turner visited Harrell during the live contact period in December and position coach Daronte Jones also spoke with Harrell recently.

"I haven't committed yet, but I'm going to, though," Harrell told BadgerBlitz.com. "Only thing is that they're greyshirting me, so instead of enrolling in the fall I enroll second semester in January."

A 6-foot-3, 175-pound prospect, Harrell played quarterback in high school but brings intriguing size to the defensive backfield. He passed for 1,347 yards and 17 touchdowns on offense with three interceptions and 18 tackles on defense.

"Because of my length, it allows me to get hands on receivers off the ball by slowing them down in their route," Harrell told BadgerBlitz.com in a previous interview. "I also bring speed to the corner position because I have clocked a 4.49 (second) 40-yard dash and a 4.2 shuttle.

"Another thing that makes me a good corner is being able to high-point the ball when it's in the air."

Wisconsin was the first school to offer Harrell, who was also hearing from Wyoming, Utah State, San Diego State, Colorado and Air Force.

The Badgers currently have 23 commitments in the 2016 class.
