Badger Watch 2: Quarterbacks

With summer camps over and more commitments in place, Wisconsin has a better idea of what its 2014 recruiting class will look like. Over the next two weeks, BadgerBlitz.com will reanalyze UW's recruiting efforts with a position-by-position breakdown of targets to see how the Badgers will fill their 2014 recruiting class.

Today, we reexamine the quarterbacks.

2. What's happened since May?
The Badgers only two offers at the position at the time, Kyle Allen and Deshone Kizer, committed to Texas A&M and Notre Dame, respectively. Wisconsin then issued offers to dual-threat Florida quarterbacks Nicodem Pierre and D.J. Gillins, and have shown increased interest in Sean White and Nick Jeanty.
Though they didn't receive offers, other targets such as Luke Rubenzer (Cal), Manny Wilkins (Arizona State) and Tyler Wiegers (Rutgers) have pledged elsewhere.
3. What happens next?
Gillins is expected to announce his college choice on Monday. He claims a top five of Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech, Wisconsin, Boston College and Arizona, but the smart money is on Boston College or Wisconsin. Either way, Gillins plans on taking official visits in the fall, so no school he commits to should feel comfortable until the spring.
"Boston College is my leader," Gillins told Rivals.com. "One offer that stands out to me is Wisconsin. I was surprised they offered."
If Gillins, 6-foot-3, 185 pounds, commits to one of the other four finalists, expect Wisconsin to move on White, who will be on campus next week. White is coming off of an Elite 11 MVP performence and will likely be offered by the Badgers if Gillins opts for a different school.
"The coaches told me I am in their top three quarterbacks and that they would love for me to come up to visit this summer," White told BadgerBlitz.com. "Coach (Andy) Ludwig came and watched me practice in the spring and I am very interested in Wisconsin.
"Just everything combined that Wisconsin has to offer; the sick fan base, good academics, college town, cool coaches. All of that is very appealing."
4. Class Prediction: I think Gillins will become a Badger on Monday, especially with the latest rumblings inside the Badgers' Den.
