No. 1: Linebacker Tuf Borland (6-foot-1, 228-pound freshman)
Recruiting story: Though there's no relation here to former Wisconsin linebacker Chris Borland, Tuf Borland's father, Kyle, was a linebacker for the Badgers in the 1980s. That seemed to give UW an inside track in Tuf Borland's recruitment, and he narrowed his focus to Wisconsin, Ohio State and Northwestern in the spring of 2015. But in April of that year, the three-star prospect from Illinois pledged to the Buckeyes. Borland, in his first year on campus, is not on Ohio State's two-deep this fall.
Despite missing on Borland in the 2016 class, the Badgers did well at the position and were able to sign Mason Stokke, Noah Burks, Dallas Jeanty, Griffin Grady and Keldric Preston.
