Wisconsin picked up verbal commit No. 9 in the class of 2018 on Friday from Cincinnati (OH) St. Xavier quarterback Chase Wolf.

Here are 10 quick takes and some analysis on what Wolf's commitment means to the Badgers.

1. Credit the Wisconsin coaching staff, led by offensive quality control Jon Budmayr, for targeting Wolf early in the process. In November of 2016, Wisconsin extended a scholarship to Wolf, his second at the time along with Central Michigan.

"It wasn't the deciding factor, but it was a pretty big deal for me that Wisconsin offered so early and showed faith in me," Wolf told BadgerBlitz.com "Knowing that all these other schools had confidence in me was great, too, but Wisconsin saw something on my film before the others. I really appreciated that."

Wolf had no less than 17 offers at the time of his commitment.

2. Speaking of Budmayr, the former UW quarterback has done a very good job on the recruiting front since joining the staff in 2015. Prior to Wolf's commitment, Budmayr identified and secured a pledge from Ben Bryant after he watched him throw at a camp last summer. And in the 2017 class, he was instrumental in landing four-star QB Jack Coan.

"Coach Budmayr was extremely happy when I committed and he said I made his month," Wolf said. "My relationship with him is very good. He said he talks about me to his wife, so I know he likes me a lot. I have a great relationship with him and coach (Paul) Chryst and that was big for me."

Many assume Budmayr will be hired as Wisconsin's 10th assistant coach when the NCAA proposal goes into effect in January.

3. Wolf and Bryant have yet to sign but if everything holds true come February, the Badgers will have taken four scholarship quarterbacks in the last two recruiting cycles (Jack Coan and Danny Vanden Boom in 2017). With just three signal callers on the spring roster - including Coan, who enrolled early - Wisconsin should finally have a healthy number of campus in the summer of 2018. The four mentioned will join Kare' Lyles, a redshirt freshman and Alex Hornibrook, a redshirt sophomore.
