2020 DB Amaun Williams: Wisconsin visit "a dream come true"

The first recruiting visit for Amaun Williams, a junior defensive back from Milwaukee Riverside High School, was a big one.

Earlier this month, the 5-foot-8, 155-pound in-state prospect took an unofficial visit to Wisconsin for the Badgers' win over New Mexico.

"The Wisconsin visit was a dream come true - it was my first time attending a college football game," Williams told BadgerBlitz.com. "Being with the players and around an atmosphere with lots of joyful people made it feel like home and a place I would want to be.

"When I got there I was able to meet with the recruiting coordinator, Jensen Gebhardt, and enjoyed a breakfast with a couple other recruits. As the day went on we were able to see the weight room. Then we walked through the tunnel and on to the field where we saw the team warming up and preparing for a dog fight. As the game got ready to start we went to our seats and watched the whole game. The atmosphere and the main theme of work ethic and being a leader even when nobody is watching really stood out to me."

After the game, Williams, who reported a 4.55-second 40-yard dash, was able to connect with UW's coaching staff.

"When the game ended we walked back onto the field and through the tunnel into the locker with the players and coaches," Williams said. "We talked to our position coaches and the conversation was about how our season was going, mainly, and how we felt about the game.

"As we got ready to leave I went to talk to a couple players. Some I met from camp and some of the newer players that played well that day. That was about the end of the visit. The coaches were saying to keep being leaders on our teams. That was also said a lot by the players, and to keep working and that they would keep in contact."

Still early in his recruitment, Williams, who is also a standout baseball player, has heard from a handful of other schools outside of Wisconsin.

"Yeah, I'm hearing from some Division 3 schools and like two other Division 1 schools," Williams said. "I was supposed to visit Minnesota bu they never got back to me about it.

"I'm pretty sure I’ll see much more at the end of the season."

Riverside, which is currently 6-1 this fall, sits atop the Milwaukee City Conference-Richardson standings.

"Honestly, I feel like I'm having the best season in the state on defense and special teams," Williams said. "I feel like I'm growing to be the best leader on the team, on and off the field, even with all the family issues I have going on right now."

In the 2020 class, the Badgers have commitments from in-state offensive tackles Trey Wedig and Jack Nelson.
