Thursday night, Wisconsin sophomore guard Jonathan Davis was named to the 12-man roster for the USA Basketball U19 World Cup team.

Davis, 6-foot-5 and 196 pounds, appeared in all 31 games as a freshman for the Badgers, averaging 7.0 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. In his first year with the program, Davis emerged as the team's sixth man and top reserve.

Davis, a La Crosse, Wis., native, joins Sussex Hamilton's Patrick Baldwin Jr., who was also selected to the squad.

The U19 World Cup team, which is coached by TCU coach Jamie Dixon, will continue to train on the Horned Frogs' campus before traveling to Riga, Latvia. The tournament will be held from July 3-11 with Team USA opening play on July 3rd against Turkey. The team will be looking to win gold for the fourth time in the last five Word Cups.

“This week has been very fulfilling so far, and the process of selecting this 12-player group was really difficult given the amount of talent we have had at training camp,” Dixon said in a release. “Everyone has been working hard, we are growing closer as a group, which is really important. I am excited about the team that the committee put together as we now prepare to head overseas to Latvia and compete for a gold medal.

“Although the committee had to make some tough decisions in the selection process, we are thrilled with the potential this team brings to the court, its length, basketball IQ, defensive prowess and offensive abilities should make us a strong team, and I am looking forward to the challenge of competing in the U19 World Cup in July. For some of our guys, it will be the first time leaving the country and everyone is excited about having the honor of representing their country.”
