Wisconsin, at least at the moment, is at capacity in the 2018 recruiting class with 19 scholarship commitments.
But Paul Chryst and his staff have done an excellent job landing preferred walk-ons in the past two cycles. So much so that a number of in-staters have turned down scholarship money in order to play for the Badgers.
But after taking 12 preferred walk-ons in 2016 and 11 last February, roster spots are at premium, especially without any in the current senior class and just five in the junior cycle.
At this point, no known PWO opportunities have been extended to prospects in the senior class, but BadgerBlitz.com examines who could be on UW's radar.
Quarterback
There was a point in this class when Wisconsin wanted two scholarship quarterbacks. That has since changed, and Chase Wolf will be the Badgers lone signal caller in 2018. But in order to pad the depth on the current roster, adding a walk-on would make a lot of sense.
In Wisconsin's backyard is Waunakee standout Nate Carter, who passed for over 1,500 yards and 11 touchdowns last fall. The all-conference performer is still looking for his first offer but has been in contact with a handful of schools this offseason, including Wisconsin and Iowa. At 6-foot-5 and 195 pounds, Carter has ideal size for a pro-style quarterback at the college level.
Outside of Cater, keep an eye on Keagan Calchera from Eau Claire Memorial High School. Staff member Jon Budmayr has been in contact and the 6-foot-3, 200-pound senior camped with the Badgers this summer.
