THREE THINGS WE LEARNED ALREADY THIS SPRING

Joey Hauser
Joey Hauser (Rivals.com)

1 - Joey Hauser is in no rush...

... but is it only a matter of time before he selects Marquette where his older brother, Sam, just finished his freshman season? The youngest Hauser certainly hasn't tipped his hat or ever narrowed his list, though UW, Marquette, Michigan State, Iowa and Virginia appear to be the top schools in play at this point, with Duke and Notre Dame also in the mix.

"I'm not trying to let that really affect my decision," Hauser told BadgerBlitz.com when asked about his brother's influence on the Golden Eagles in his recruitment. "I'm going to pick where I'm the most comfortable and whatever school I like the most."

Head coach Greg Gard had an in-state visit with Hauser on Tuesday, a trip that could have given him a better idea on how to approach the live evaluation period. As it stands, the Badgers have yet to extend another offer in the 2018 class outside of Hauser, Tyler Herro and Isaiah Kelly.

It's also interesting to note that Irish coach Mike Brey offered Thursday after visiting with Hauser in Stevens Point earlier in the week. The four-star prospect likely indicated that his recruitment is still open, so much so that a late scholarship from Notre Dame was worth Brey's time and effort.

We still feel like Marquette will eventually be Hauser's pick, but a handful of other schools feel they have a chance in this recruiting battle.

2 - Things may have fallen off a bit with Isaiah Kelly

Speaking of Isaiah Kelly, who UW offered in July of 2015, interest may have fallen off a bit, especially with lead recruiter Lamont Paris now at Tennessee-Chattanooga. A 6-foot-7, 215-pound junior from Pace Academy in Georgia, Kelly has visited Madison unofficially the past two summers but is currently hearing more from other schools at this point in his recruitment.

"Right now I'm hearing the most from Princeton, Butler, Florida Gulf Coast and Iowa State," Kelly told BadgerBlitz.com. "I don't have any favorites at all right now.

"I think I'm going to make the decision in December right now."

3- Tyler Herro is ready to go

After missing the last chunk of his junior season and first AAU event of the spring, Tyler Herro tells BadgerBlitz.com that he's healthy and ready to compete in Virginia this weekend in the Nike EYBL event. A four-star Wisconsin commit from Whitnall (WI) High School, Herro is coming back from a knee injury that forced him to miss the WIAA playoffs this past winter.

Herro, who committed to Wisconsin in September of last year, will run with Playground Elite this offseason, a team that also features Keshawn Justice, Carlos Curtis, Jack Plumb and Greg Foster, among others.
