Taj Mustapha commit: What does it mean for Wisconsin?

Wisconsin picked up verbal commit No. 15 in the class of 2018 on Thursday from West Bloomfield, Mich., wide receiver Taj Mustapha.

Here are 10 quick takes and some analysis on what Mustapha's commitment means to the Badgers.

1. Another Michigan standout in Wisconsin's 2018 recruiting class, which makes four (publicly) for the Badgers, along with Reggie Pearson, Michael Furtney and Jaylan Franklin. I think back to when DelVaughn Alexander and others recruited the state under Bret Bielema without any success.

Mickey Turner - and now Bob Bostad - however, in just a short amount of time, have given UW a strong presence in the state. UW signed Scott Nelson in the 2017 class and the Badgers also have a strong chance to officially land A.J. Abbott in the next few hours. Certainly an impressive feat for Paul Chryst's program.

2. It's surprising how quickly the Badgers were able to secure Mustapha's commitment. He camped at Wisconsin and picked up an offer from the Badgers on June 9. The three-star senior then returned to Madison for an unofficial visit the weekend of June 16. And Thursday evening, Mustapha committed to UW. Now, the Badgers were recruiting Mustapha before the offer, but it was roughly two weeks between scholarship and pledge.

3. Can Mustapha contribute early? According to West Bloomfield (MI) head coach Ron Bellamy, the answer is yes.

"I do think he can play early," Bellamy told BadgerBlitz.com. "The reason why I saw that is because I’m also his position coach and it helps when that person played college football. I have a great idea of what Wisconsin is going to expect from him and I think Taj has equipped himself for that."
