Practice Report: Badgers kick off fall camp

MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin Badgers started their fall camp on Monday morning with a practice in Camp Randall Stadium, and BadgerBlitz.com was there to take in all of the action.

Our practice report from BadgerBlitz.com senior writer John Veldhuis is included below.

It’s the first day of camp, so the Badgers were limited in what kind of drills they could do in practice. We’ll see the team start doing 7 on 7 drills over the next few days when they can start wearing half-pack pads instead of just helmets, but I was able to infer a little bit from the drills the quarterbacks were able to do.

For one thing, it looked like the reps were split basically evenly between senior Bart Houston (6-foot-4, 235-pounds) and redshirt freshman Alex Hornibrook (6-4, 219). The Badgers just did some basic handoff drills and routes on air with their wide receivers, but both quarterbacks looked sharp for the most part in the passing drills they were able to do. The real test will come over the next week when we can see them go up against a live defense.
