Josh Seltzner earned offers from North Dakota and Indiana State during his recruitment.
But the in-state senior offensive lineman turned down that scholarship money in order to be a preferred walk-on for Wisconsin in the 2017 class.
"The walk-on program at Wisconsin is one of the greatest in the country and it's been a dream of mine to play for Wisconsin since I was a kid," Seltzner told BadgerBlitz.com. "It was very hard to pass up the scholarship money but, ultimately, the opportunity to walk on at Wisconsin was too great."
A 6-foot-5, 300-pound projected offensive guard, Seltzner, from Columbus High School, will join scholarship linemen Kayden Lyles, Tyler Beach, Alex Fenton and Logan Bruss in the current cycle.
"I've been talking to coach (Joe) Rudolph and when I told him, he was really pumped up about my commitment," said Seltzner, a WFCA first-team all-state selection and an AP second-team all-state pick. "Coach Rudolph said that I would most likely be playing guard but I have the ability to play tackle as well.
"The commits on the offensive and defensive line are all very cool guys and I got to know them pretty well from going to the home games this fall. It's a big relief to know that I've made the right decision for myself."
Wisconsin currently has 15 scholarship commitments in the 2017 class, in addition to 10 preferred walk-ons. Seltzner joins quarterback Danny Vanden Boom, defensive linemen Matt Henningsen and Michael Balistreri, linebackers Jake Collinsworth, Ethan Cesarz and Coy Wanner, running back Hunter Johnson, kicker Collin Larsh, and wide receiver Sam DeLany in the latter category.
