Over a whirlwind seven days, the 6-foot-1, 215-pound senior from Green Bay (WI) Bay Port decommitted from Northern Illinois, pledged his commitment to the Badgers and took an official visit to Madison before the WFCA all-state banquet Sunday.
"It's slowly starting to hit me," Ingold told BadgerBlitz.com. "The more experience I have with Wisconsin, the more excited I am. I think everything worked out for the best and I feel really blessed to be in the position that I'm in right now."
After providing his verbal to the Badgers on Tuesday, Ingold, a two-star prospect, was on campus for his official visit this weekend.
"It was good to see everything after committing," Ingold said. "I got a chance to speak with coach Chryst and coach (Dave) Aranda and we talked about where they are taking the defense and how I fit in with everything. It was a great experience to understand a bit more how things will go once I get on campus."
Though he played quarterback in high school -- Ingold rushed for 2,324 yards and 29 touchdowns and completed 87-of-142 passes through the air for 1,411 yards and 15 touchdowns -- the Gatorade Player of the Year will play linebacker at Wisconsin.
"It's looking more like inside linebacker because they don't have much depth there," Ingold said. "They think that the rover spot where Derek Landisch played last year is a good fit for me. It's a place where they need some athleticism and they think I can fit in real well there."
Ingold was one of four official visitors on campus along with Kraig Howe, Arrington Farrar and Joshua Thomas. He connected well with Howe, a three-star defensive lineman from Ohio who committed while on campus.
"I was hosted by Zander Neuville and T.J. Edwards," Ingold said. "Both those guys are great people and we hung out with George Panos and a few other guys. It was great to see how supportive everyone was and it was just a great environment.
"Kraig and all the other recruits are great guys. It really seems like the staff is looking for great people to recruit to Wisconsin and Kraig is definitely a testament to that. He was great to talk to and I'm glad that he committed and he'll be a great teammate."
Wisconsin currently has 26 commitments in the current class. Ingold is one of five projected linebackers along with Jordan Griffin, Dominic Sheppard, Nick Thomas (currently enrolled) and Chris Orr.
