Monty makes official visit, lists UW No. 1

What is rapidly turning out to be a wildly successful recruiting weekend for Wisconsin could end up producing another commitment in the next couple of weeks.
Joe Monty, a 6-3, 230-pound linebacker from Fort Collins High School (Co.) didn’t commit to the Badgers over the weekend, but says his pledge will likely come soon.

“You can’t do any better than the Big Ten. Wisconsin is my favorite,” Monty said. “I’m most likely going to go to Wisconsin.”
Monty has football in his bloodlines, as his father Tim is the head coach at Ft. Collins, and his older brother is a former Badger legend still playing on Sundays.
“My family has everything to do (with my success),” Monty said. “(Pete) and I are really close.”
Monty started at middle linebacker and fullback this year, which wasn’t a successful one for his team but individually, he played the best football of his career.
“I played really well. I had a lot of tackles, I had a few touchdowns and caught the ball a lot,” Monty said.
Monty was hosted on his visit by wide receiver Clint Cosgrove. He said his trip “was awesome,” particularly touring the campus, going to the basketball game and meeting Ron Dayne. He will take official visits to Colorado State Dec. 7 and Wyoming Dec. 14, but Monty said “it’s not very likely” he will change his mind from choosing Wisconsin. Monty plans on majoring in business and said Wisconsin offers him the best combination of academics and football.
While his favorite position is fullback, he’s willing to play any position as long as he’s on the field. Wisconsin is recruiting him as a defensive end, Colorado State wants him as a middle linebacker and Wyoming is looking at him as a fullback.
Monty said wherever he plays, he will bring a lot of intensity.
“I love football. I want to be out there and I have a great motor,” Monty said. “I go as hard as I can the whole time, and I can hit really hard.”
