Mammoth JUCO OL to visit FSU next week

With a huge need on the offensive line it's no surprise that the Seminoles are starting to look to the junior college ranks for help. The first of several JUCO linemen to visit Florida State over the next month will be in Tallahassee next Tuesday through Thursday to check out the campus and meet with the coaching staff.

Shannon Boatman, a 6-foot-7, 310-pound tackle, Tyler Junior College (Tyler, TX) first heard from an FSU coach just two weeks ago and since then he has received a scholarship offer and the 'Noles' interest has only gotten stronger.

"They told me they had a lot of injuries on their o-line so they need some experience and that's how I came about," Boatman said. "They were watching some film and hearing some good things about me so that's how I came into the picture."

Some of the other schools in the picture include Nebraska, Oklahoma State, South Carolina, Iowa State and Texas A&M. The Rivals.com JUCO-50 member says he doesn't have any favorites at this point but did speak highly of the Seminoles.

"I feel pretty good about them because I like their program," Boatman said. "Head coach Bobby Bowden is known for winning. Those are some things that are pretty high on my list."

Boatman went to high school at Westbrook in Beaumont, Texas but was not heavily recruited because of grade issues. With two years of eligibility to play two, he is anxious to get on the field quickly and says that will be the major factor in him making a decision on a school.

Not only does Boatman have an impressive frame, he is very athletic and has outstanding strength. In addition to playing offensive line and tight end on the gridiron in high school, he suited up for the basketball team. He boasts a 475-pound squat and runs the 40-yard dash in 5.05 seconds.

Signing day for junior college prospects graduating this semester is December 21st.
