REPORT: UW set to hire Brown

According to a report by FootballScoop.com, Wisconsin has found its replacement for Thomas Hammock, who is now with the Baltimore Ravens.

Thomas Brown, who spent the 2013 as the running back coach at Marshall, will serve in the same capacity for the Badgers.

Brown's connections in Georgia were likely a big reason for the hire. Head coach Gary Andersen was looking for someone to recruit the state full time and Brown was a standout a Tucker High School in Atlanta before becoming a four-year starter for the Bulldogs. Brown also played professionally in Atlanta after being drafted by the Falcons in the 2008.

"Moving ourselves to the East Coast, we'll have two coaches that are in there pretty much full time," Andersen said during his Signing Day press conference. "And moving into the Midwest, a little more compartmentalized, if you will, in the strategic places we need to be. We'll continue down those roads.

"Georgia will also open up for us, and we'll continue to have one coach at least in Georgia full time."

Brown will take over an impressive stable of running backs at UW this spring. Melvin Gordon is expected to be one of the top backs in the country and Corey Clement played extremely well as a true freshman in 2013.

Additionally, the Badgers signed four-star Taiwan Deal and three-star Caleb Kinlaw earlier this month. Krenwick Sanders and Jeremy Patterson, both of whom were recruited by Hammock, were the two prospects from Georgia whom UW signed in the 2014 class. All four are expected on campus this summer.

"Thomas is an excellent addition to our staff," Marshall head coach Doc Holliday said after Brown's hire in March of 2013. "He has competed at the highest level of our sport and has a tremendous reputation in Atlanta with players and coaches alike."

In the 2014 class, Marshall signed nine prospects from the state of Georgia.

Spring camp will open on March 7 for Wisconsin.
