Badgers drop six spots in AP Poll

MADISON, Wis. - After dropping two games to unranked Big Ten teams this past week, the Wisconsin Badgers (16-2, 3-2) fell six spots in Monday's AP Poll from No. 3 to No. 9 in the country.

The Badgers continue their streak of being ranked in the Top 25 for the past 14 weeks dating back to last season.

Wisconsin received 1,074 points this week - down from the 1,482 they received in last week's poll - allowing for the third largest drop in the polls, behind No. 24 Baylor (previous: 12) and No. 16 Iowa State (previous: 8). Wisconsin, Baylor, and Iowa St. each lost twice this past week.

Despite the two losses to Indiana and Michigan this past week, the Badgers still hold the fourth-best RPI in the country, the fourth-toughest schedule, and are one of just three teams in the country to not lose to a Top 25 opponent (minimum two games played).

No. 1 Arizona (18-0) and No. 2 Syracuse (18-0) sit atop the poll for the seventh consecutive week while No. 3 Michigan St. (17-1), No. 4 Villanova (16-1), and No. 5 Wichita St. (19-0) round out the top-five.

The Big Ten now has three teams in the top-ten with No. 10 Iowa (15-3) now joining the club for the first time since being ranked No. 9 the week of Jan. 1, 2002. No other conference has more than one team in the top-ten. 17 Ohio St. (15-3), losers of three-straight, and No. 21 Michigan (13-4), the lone undefeated team in Big Ten play, bring the Big Ten's total to five teams in the Top 25.

No. 21 Michigan was ranked seventh in the preseason Top 25 and was ranked for the first four weeks before falling out of the poll.

Six teams lead the way for the Big 12 conference in the polls, led by No. 8 Kansas (13-4), but three of those teams fall outside of the top-20 and Kansas is the lone Big 12 team in the top-10.
