Marshall elects to transfer

Sophomore point guard George Marshall, who has played in just two games this year due to a head injury, has elected to transfer from Wisconsin, according to UW Athletic Communications.

Head coach Bo Ryan commented on Marshall's situation Saturday morning just hours before the Badgers (9-0) are set to host Marquette (5-3) at the Kohl Center.

"George came and talked to me and he informed me that he wanted to pursue his options of playing somewhere else," Ryan said in a release. "I told him we would help in any way we could to facilitate his transition to a new school.

"He's a great kid, from a terrific family and we wish him luck as he continues his academic and athlete career."

Marshall was a three-star prospect in the 2011 class who committed to Wisconsin over offers from Baylor, DePaul and Xavier, among others. He appeared in 37 games and averaged 4.0 points and 1.0 assist per game during his career in Madison. The Chicago native suffered a concussion on Nov. 15 and has not played since.

"I love my teammates and the team and I'm thankful to the university and Coach Ryan for the chance to play at Wisconsin," Marshall said in the same release. "I'm excited to look for a new opportunity."

Junior Traevon Jackson has been the starting point guard for Wisconsin this season with true freshman Bronson Koenig getting extended minutes off the bench.

Marshall's transfer frees up some space at guard for Wisconsin moving forward. Jackson and Koenig, along with Josh Gasser, Zak Showalter (redshirt), Jordan Hill and Riley Dearring (redshirt) all return for the Badgers next season.
