Brust emerging as scoring leader

MADISON - While it might have been hard to foresee before the season started, Ben Brust has become Wisconsin's top offensive player.

Brust once again led the Badgers with 15 points against Ohio State on 6-of-11 shooting, including 3-of-8 from 3-point range in a 71-49 win over No. 13 Ohio State.

''The guys got good looks, and they went down,'' Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan said. ''They didn't change anything. I'd like to say we did, that we found something.''

This was Brust's fifth consecutive game scoring in double digits after failing to reach the mark in his previous seven games.

Badgers have an offensive explosion

It's hard to overstate how well Wisconsin played offensively. Not only did the Badgers shoot a season-high 52.7 percent from the field, they did it against an Ohio State team that held them to only 49 points in their previous meeting.

Traevon Jackson did not seem phased by the intense ball pressure Aaron Craft applied and managed to operate an offense which saw the top six in the rotation go a combined 28-50, including 7-for-17 from three.

Point guard gap grows

It appears Jackson has distanced himself from the pack in the battle for point guard minutes.

Jackson was second on the Badgers with 35 minutes, while George Marshall played only six and Zak Showalter came in during garbage time.

Jackson scored 10 second-half points and added four assists while holding Craft to only four points on 2-of-9 shooting and one assist.

As Thad Matta said after the game, "Traevon Jackson…he's a heck of a player."

Team notes

-The Badgers improved to 5-4 vs. teams ranked in the AP Top 25 this season, including a 5-2 mark against ranked Big Ten teams. That ties UW with Indiana and Georgetown for the most wins over top 25 opponents this season.

-The 22-point win matches UW's largest victory over a ranked opponent, tying the previous high set on Dec. 31, 2009, at the Kohl Center in a 65-43 win over then 15th-ranked Ohio State.

-Wisconsin has now played nine teams ranked in the AP Top 25, more than any other school in the country. UW also recorded its fifth Top 15 win of the season.

Individual notes

-Brust and senior Jared Berggren each finished with 15 points for the Badgers. Brust recorded his fifth double-double of his career, adding 11 rebounds and three assists in 37 minutes of action. Berggren tallied eight boards for UW.

-Freshman Sam Dekker scored 13 points on 5-for-9 (.555) from the field in 28 minutes of action.

-Jackson rounded out the double-figure scoring with 10 points, while adding four assists.
