Hot 11: Ohio State

MADISON - When a team faces the No. 1 ranked team in the country, chances are it's going to take a number of players to play an exceptional game to earn the victory. For UW, that's exactly what happened. The result paved the way for a competitive weekly installment of the Hot 11.

The sixth installment of the 2010 regular season is based on momentum and individual play this season. One bad game won't necessarily move a player off, but it could cause a player to slide down the board as new players start to emerge.

By no means is the list perfect, that is why BadgerBlitz.com encourages everyone to head over to The Badgers' Den to offer their own opinions.

Note: The number in parentheses is the number of points the player got based on a voting panel of BadgerBlitz.com staff members.

Rank Player The Word Last Game
1 J.J. Watt, DE (41) Watt was credited with two sacks and three tackles-for-loss. It seemed like he had more than that. When the Badgers needed a big play, particularly in the fourth quarter, it seemed Watt was the guy to provide them with it. T6
2 John Clay, RB (37) Ohio State hadn't allowed a 100-yard rusher in two and a half years. That was until Saturday night when Clay toppled the mark with his 104-yard, two touchdown game. 2
3 Blake Sorensen, OLB (30) Sorensen described his effort against the Buckeyes as "an out of body experience." He led the team with 10 tackles and was seemingly involved with every defensive play, including the game clinching interception. N/A
4 Gabe Carimi, LT (27) During UW's monumental touchdown drive in the fourth quarter, the left side of the line was simply dominant. There was never a question that Paul Chryst was going to keep calling run plays to go off that side. 10
5 James White, RB (25) When the Badgers needed a score most the coaching staff went with White. As a freshman, that type of responsibility speaks to the level of trust the coaches have in the young play-maker. 1
6 John Moffitt, LG (23) Like Carimi, Moffitt played an instrumental role throughout the game. Most of the Clay and White's rushing yardage came on the left side of the line. Each of those two players are NFL talents. 9
7 David Gilreath, WR (20) In front of a crowd that was already ecstatic, Gilreath seized the moment early against Ohio State with the school's first kickof f return for a touchdown in 10 years. N/A
8 Scott Tolzien, QB (19) His numbers weren't especially gaudy, but they were serviceable. In the fourth quarter, when the team needed to respond after Ohio State cut the lead to three points, it was Tolzien's decision making that helped them march down the field. 5
9 Antonio Fenelus, CB (15) With a talent like Terrelle Pryor running around it becomes incredibly difficult to perform well as a cornerback. But Fenelus was able to do just that. He remained disciplined and true to the fundamentals. All together, that equated to one of the better games of his career. N/A
10 Peter Konz, C (8) Konz remains one of, if not the most, versatile players on the UW offensive line. His pulling ability and ability to get out on the edge separates him from anybody else on the team 11
11 Nick Toon, WR (6) For the first time since returning from his turf toe injury, Toon looked like he did towards the end of fall camp. At that time, it seemed as though the junior wide-out was headed for an incredible year. But then his turf toe injury emerged and hampered any progress. Now, with five league games to go, Toon looks to be back at full strength. N/A
