May 16, 2005Los Angeles (Calif.) Harbor College athlete Mike Bolio has become the first USC verbal commitment for the class of 2006, or the last for the class of 2005.
He plans to enroll in August, which will allow him to participate in fall camp. In that case, Bolio would have four years to play three.
Bolio, a relatively new name to Trojan fans, actually played quarterback and receiver for Harbor Junior College last season. While excelling at both, Bolio earned JuCal Post-season all-state honors.
"In my 35 years of coaching, Mike is as good of a player as I have ever had," Harbor head coach Steve Schmitz told AztecSportsReport.com. "He is just phenomenal. He is a legit 4.3 guy. He ran a 10.47 electronically in the 100 meters. He is very quick and he is also a coach's dream to coach."
With a successful spring in the classroom, Bolio decided to fast-track his college decision.
"On Thursday I verbally committed to USC," Bolio told Adam Munsterteiger of BuffStampede.com.
Winning and family played a big part in Bolio's decision.
"I've always wanted to win a national championship," said Bolio. "USC is close to home, and all my family can come to the games. That's pretty much what it came down to. If I get a degree from USC, I know I will be set for life."
Oklahoma, Florida, Auburn and Marshall were among the list of schools Bolio was considering.
USCFootball.com will have more on Mike Bolio's commitment this week.
