With the ability to play a few spots on the defensive line, Wisconsin joined the scholarship race for Tyler Powell on Friday.
The 6-foot-3, 252-pound junior from Midlothian (VA)
Cosby received the offer from Badgers' assistant coach Chris Beatty.
"I was told to give coach Beatty a call today," Powell told BadgerBlitz.com. "When I called him he asked if I was interested in being a Badger, and then he offered me. He said it seemed like a no-brainer.
"I'm very interested in Wisconsin and I'm excited to learn more about the school and program."
Powell noted this was the first time he has been in contact with the staff from Wisconsin, which is moving to a three-man defensive front.
"Coach Beatty really didn't say what position he liked me at, but the staff really likes my film," Beatty said. "I think they see me as a defensive end who can move to a tackle if needed.
"I think I could grow into a tackle but I know I'm athletic enough to play end however big I get."
UW is the ninth known offer for Powell, who also has scholarships from Cincinnati, Marshall, Purdue and Temple.
"Right now I'm just really keeping my options open and I want to take a good look at everyone," Powell said. "I think Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and Maryland could be close to offering this summer.
"I'm not sure what schools I'll visit yet this summer. We'll have to see what else happens this spring before we get our schedule together. It would be nice to make a college decision before this season, but I'm not sure yet."
Powell had 80 tackles and 10 sacks as a junior en route to receiving all-state honorable mention honors in Virginia.
