A&M starts off with Penn
What has happened in the past doesn't matter any more as the 2006-07 season heads into the NCAA tournament to crown a new national champion. Texas A&M is the No. 3 seed in the South region and will open with No. 14 Pennsylvania Thursday at 2:10 p.m. at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Ken.
The Aggies (25-6) bring a well balanced attack to go along with a stellar defense and senior experience, which could mean a deep run into March. But Penn (22-8) has other plans as it is in its third consecutive NCAA tournament as the three-time Ivy League champion.
The Quakers are a senior-laden team that returns most of its roster from a season ago when Penn took No. 2 seed Texas to the wire in Dallas, eventually losing by eight. They will be looking to go out with a big time win over a national title contender. A&M fits the bill.
A&M, however, has all the tools to make a championship run and they won't be overlooking Penn, especially after losing to Oklahoma State in the Big 12 tournament quarterfinals.
